EDMONTON, AB – A large group of Oilers fans has gathered in downtown Edmonton to hold a candlelit vigil in memory of the playoff spot they held this week.

Early reports indicate that over 4,000 people have gathered outside Rexall Place holding candles and signs.

One fan was seen with a sign that said "Oilers playoff run – December 14 to December 15, 2015." A number of others had signs with the hashtag #wewillreturn.

"Lest we forget that winning feeling," Reverend Danny O'Shea told those in attendance.

"The playoffs are a tough beast, and we can thank the Lord for the taste that he hath given us."

A number of fans admitted they were proud of the team.

"It's been a long road for all of us here in Edmonton, and to sit in a playoff spot for a day is a nice reward," one man said.

"We finally got to see the hard work of our scouts come to fruition."

Team spokesman Dan Lowry said that the winning feeling is something that will drive the team next season.

"While 2015-16 is behind us, we have plenty to look forward to next year and beyond."
