The Elbow staff
TORONTO, ON – While Toronto Maple Leafs fans were celebrating yet another big name signing on to the front office on Wednesday, there were some members of the team that were less than overjoyed at the news of Lou Lamoriello's hiring.
The reason is that the long-time New Jersey general manager has a reputation for banning facial hair in the locker rooms of his Devils teams.
The Elbow is yet to confirm or deny if this rule will be brought to the front office of the Maple Leafs, but we spoke with a number of beards and moustaches recently to get their early reaction.
"I'm not always around, but when I am, I'm a valued member of this team" said Daniel Winnik's moustache, Pedro.
"I've always taken pride in pulling on that Maple Leafs jersey. Who's to say that I'm any less deserving of being there than the tiny blonde pre-pubescent hairs on Jake Gardiner's face?"
Roman Polak's scruff, Anton, was also notably upset.
"I have been a staple in this league since we broke onto the St. Louis roster back in 2007," he said.
"There is absolutely no way I'm going into retirement just because of some crazy rule like this. No way."
