TORONTO, ON – Ahead of tonight's much-anticipated Maple Leafs logo reveal, team personnel have promised fans that the new look will be "groundbreaking" and will "push the team into the 21st century".
Veering away from the classic logos that the team has worn on their alternate jerseys since 2000, one unnamed source said that the team was looking to go in a new direction.
"'Fresh' and 'savvy' are the two terms that come to mind when describing what will be revealed this evening," the source said.
"It's unlike anything that our fans have seen yet. We wanted it to be symbolic of the new direction that the team is going on the ice."
Many Leafs fans have expressed weariness ahead of tonight's announcement, given the team's less than stellar record of making unpopular decisions.
"I'm very concerned that it will be something completely out of the box," Warren Smythe of Thornhill said today. "I'm thinking a Leafs' version of the last Blue Jays logo."
But the Leafs aren't concerned.
"We know that the fans don't want a rehash on an old design. Most of our fans are in that vital 12-19 age group, so we've tried aiming it at them first and foremost, while throwing in splashes that will appeal to the older generations as well."
"All I'll say is that the fans can trust us completely to make a new design. We've never steered them in the wrong direction before."
