PITTSBURGH, PA – Over 5,000 Penguins fans have signed an online petition calling for GM Jim Rutherford's head, weeks after he helped lead the team to its fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history.

The organizer of the petition said that he is one of many Penguins fans fed up with the team being ousted in the first and second rounds of the playoffs.

"It's been way too long since this team has been really competitive," Alan Toohey said on Sunday.

"We're sick of seeing our goaltenders blow leads, and sick of seeing the captain not turn up at big moments."

When asked if he watched any of this year's playoffs, Toohey said he saw "a game or two in the first round".

"It's all so predictable though, isn't it? If we weren't going to be knocked out by the Rangers again, some other team that knows how defence wins championships will take care of business."

"There's always next year, thankfully, but I'm not going to give them another nickel until they prove to me that they're committed to winning."
