NEWARK, NJ – The Devils kicked off their 2017-18 season ticket promotion today with a fresh new slogan entitled "Real Nerds".
The team is hoping that the campaign can reach all corners of the hockey market in New Jersey, from those who are athletically-inclined to those at the opposite end of the spectrum.
"We're now reaching out to the regular-looking fans in all of our promotional materials," Dean Gawn, director of ticket sales for the team, said today. "By including them in the ads themselves, we hope to get other aesthetically displeasing people coming out to our games."
By putting nerdy fans alongside players, the team hopes to bring the hockey-supporting community together.
"The nerd market in this state is like an untapped well, ready to explode. After years of trying to appeal to beautiful people, we've realized that the nerd niche is worth exploring."
The Devils say they're hoping for a 10 percent jump in season ticket sales from last year with this campaign, which would equate to approximately 150 extra people in seats.
